An ornamental shrub that flowers at the end of the winter,
Forsythia is fully winterhardy and the flowers appear
before the leaves.
The Forsythia will grow on almost every soil.
It need a frosty period to form its flowerbuds.
Pruning of Forsythia
Without pruning, youre Forsythia will produce less flowers
every year. This is because the old wood won't produce
flower buds. So, after some years its time to do some pruning.
Best time for Pruning is directly after the
Flowering, but it can be done until the end of the summer
Remove the old branches until they are about 1/4 long.
The shrub will form young branches that will flower
Its not nescessary to buy a Forsythia, cutting
is very easy: take some young, flexible branches.
This can be best done in the mid of the summer.
Put these branches in moist soil, containing sand.
The branches will form roots, voila, the starting
of a new shrub.
This is a one-word poem , made by Mary Ellen Solt.
She was a pioneer in "concrete poetry": poems
were the word(s) of the poem form a typographical arrangement.
In Kensington Gardens, London, one can find
an inscription with the name William Forsythia,
This gardener gives it name to this shrub.
